WATKINS GLEN, NY (607NewsNow) – Work is progressing on a memorial for late Watkins Glen Mayor Laurie DeNardo.

Watkins Glen Promotions (WGP), the nonprofit group leading the project, says foundation work is underway, and the stone has been delivered to Clute Park.

The plaque is finished and will be installed once everything is set. WGP credits donated time, supplies, and labor in the effort. J.C. Supply transported the stone to Clute Park free of charge. Thurston Memorials is donating the cost to install the plaque once the stone is set.

Larson Engineering Group donated the engineering details needed for the structural integrity of the memorial base, and the Village of Watkins Glen provided labor and materials to dig out the base for the concrete and the stone. Additionally, Welliver will pour the concrete free of charge.

WGP has also raised enough money to purchase a memorial bench that will accompany the memorial once it’s completed.

DeNardo, who had served as mayor upon her retirement from Human Resources at Cornell, passed away in March after a 10-month cancer battle.
