CORTLAND, N.Y. (WHCU) — The Cortland man accused of shooting at officers last week faces a charge of attempted murder.
State Police say deputies served an eviction notice last Monday to Steven Burda, who had a shotgun. Officers tried deescalating the situation and used non-lethal force to try disarming Burda, but authorities say the 58-year-old fired his shotgun in their direction. No officer was injured, but Burda was struck during an exchange of shots in the Homer Avenue home.
Burda remains hospitalized in stable condition. Once released, he’ll be arraigned on attempted murder.
