CORTLAND, NY (607NewsNow) – The Cortland County Farm Bureau is receiving recognition.

In October, the New York Farm Bureau conducted a statewide social media contest asking farm bureaus to produce a 30-second video explaining why it’s important to be a farm bureau member.

With the tagline “Farm Bureau wears the suits so you don’t have to,” Cortland’s video featured member and past president Paul Fouts wearing a suit and tie while driving a tractor, cleaning a barn, inspecting crops, milking and feeding cows, and repairing equipment. “Farmers can dress professionally, but they can’t always leave the farm. That’s why we have Farm Bureau,” the video noted.

New York Farm Bureau Director of Member Experience Thomas Denman conceived the contest. He tracked social media engagement using a weighted system based on county size.

“Being a member of a farm bureau gives you so many advantages, from advocacy and local problem-solving to exclusive member discounts and more,” said Denman. “This contest was about sharing the value of membership in a fun way. Cortland County Farm Bureau’s creative entry resonated deeply with viewers. It was a great example of the power of short-term video storytelling.”

Out of 15 farm bureaus that participated, Cortland’s received the most engagement. The Cortland County Farm Bureau will use its $1,000 prize to expand programs and initiatives.
