NEWFIELD, N.Y. (WHCU) — Second Wind Cottages has canceled their plans to expand.

They’ve withdrawn their application from the Tompkins County Community Recovery Fund, which totaled over $510,000. In a Facebook post on Tuesday, Second Wind cited the “stigma associated with homelessness and addiction” for dropping their request.

The group was looking to build additional campsites in Newfield for homeless men, but the Newfield Town Board voted in February on a two-year moratorium on campsites. A second, amended application was submitted. Last week, a slim majority of Tompkins County legislators approved the application.

Second Wind leaders say they are postponing expansion plans.
