UNION, NY (607NewsNow) – A Johnson City man faces multiple charges in the Town of Union.

On September 21, State Police were called to a home on Onondaga Street for a fire.

During the investigation, it was determined that 39-year-old John Walley intentionally set fire to the residence, though the occupant was not home at the time. The two are known to each other.

Troopers say they observed Walley walking in the area of the residence during the investigation. He was taken into custody after a brief foot pursuit and scuffle in which he allegedly tried to grab a trooper’s handgun.

Walley is charged with arson, assault with intent to cause injury to a police officer, attempted robbery and two misdemeanors, including resisting arrest.

Both Walley and one of the responding officers were taken to Wilson Medical Center for treatment.
