CORTLANDVILLE, NY (607NewsNow) — The Cortland County Planning Board has voted unanimously to recommend the Town of Cortlandville Planning Board deny permits and requests more information before approving plans for a proposed gas station.
According to WXHC, the property is located where the former Salvation Army was at 3505 Route 281. The property owner, Ammar Obadi, is looking to add a gas station as well as a grocery store. The plans for the property tentatively include six gas pumps, two 12,000-gallon fuel storage tanks which would include secondary containment and leak-detection systems, and a grocery store that would occupy take up a little over 5,400 square feet.
Citing concerns regarding the size of the proposed project, traffic congestion, and namely, the fact that the proposal is located within a wellhead protection area, where gas stations are not allowed to be built under town code, members of the Cortland County Planning Board believe the gas station would have a detrimental effect on the county and potentially the water supply if the Town of Cortlandville Planning Board approves permits for a use variance, aquifer special permit, and site plan approval.
On Tuesday, November 24th, there will be a public hearing on the proposal held by the Town of Cortlandville Planning Board. Find more details on WXHC’s website here.
