CORTLAND, NY (607NewsNow) — Free wi-fi is available now in downtown Cortland.
Empire Access Internet is working with the city on the Downtown Wi-Fi Project, nearly two years after the Prattsburgh-based group connected over 55-hundred homes and businesses in Cortland.
“Our partnership with the City of Cortland puts connection within everyone’s reach—residents, visitors, students, and families,” Empire Fiber Internet CEO Kevin Dickens said. “When fast, free Wi-Fi is available in the places people gather, it strengthens community, expands access, and enhances everyday life.”
In the fall of 2025, the company completed wi-fi installations at Beaudry Park, Dexter Park, and Suggett Park. Cortland Mayor Scott Steve says the expansion is a good sign.
“As we put the finishing touches on Main Street, it’s exciting to expand free Wi-Fi access not only downtown, but into our public parks as well,” Steve said. “This project strengthens accessibility, supports local businesses, and improves connectivity for residents and visitors alike.”
The transformation of Main St. to two-way traffic was completed last year.
