SOUTHPORT, NY (607NewsNow) – An Elmira man awaits his day in court.

Alexander Morales, 31, is accused of punching an 86-year-old woman in the face multiple times, causing bruising and a black eye. The alleged incident happened on January 2 on Stacia Drive in Southport. The Chemung County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) says Morales had been living at the residence for several months prior to the incident.

The CCSO Criminal Investigation Division is looking into how Morales and the unnamed victim know each other.

Morales is charged with felony assault, and police say additional charges are possible. He was remanded to Chemung County Jail.
