ITHACA, NY (607NewsNow) – The Tompkins County Whole Health Department (TCWH) is issuing a public health alert.

Health officials say a bat found along the Cascadilla Gorge Trail in Ithaca on June 4 tested positive for rabies at the New York State Rabies Laboratory.

It follows the discovery of a rabid bat on May 31 near the Lake Treman Trail at Upper Buttermilk Falls State Park.

If you, your pets, or someone you know has had contact with a bat, call the Tompkins County Environmental Health Division at 607-274-6688.

Additional information about rabies is available on the TCWH website.
