CORTLAND, NY (607NewsNow) — A Cortland man is going to prison.

Cortland County District Attorney Patrick Perfetti says Steven Burda will spend 10 years in state prison for shooting at officers in January 2024.

Burda, who’s 61, fired a shotgun at police while they were serving him an eviction note at his residence on Homer Ave. Non-lethal force was used in return by officers, who eventually arrested him.

Perfetti reached a compromise with the public defender’s office after a partial verdict was issued in July. The jury was deadlocked on attempted murder charges, which were dismissed by the judge.
