CORTLAND, NY (607NewsNow) — The Cortland Fire Department is bolstering its leadership ranks.
Mayor Scott Steve presided over a ceremony Monday, July 6 that formally promoted Firefighter Tyler Zelsnack to the rank of captain.
“Tyler shows a dedication and commitment to not only his profession, but also the members of the department and residents of the city,” Fire Chief Wayne Friedman said. “Tyler has worked hard in gaining experience and developing himself as a leader to better prepare him for this next step in his career”.
Zelsnack is not the only dedicated firefighter in his family. According to the city, “Tyler’s brother, Jordan is a firefighter with the department and his father, Jim, is also a captain. Tyler’s uncle and cousins have also served as volunteer and career firefighters.”
He’ll be attending a 2-week training for first line supervisors in NYC “in the near future,” officials said. For now, Zelsnack is starting his new role on the D-Shift.
