ITHACA, NY (607NewsNow) – An Ithaca man accused of making threatening social media posts is in custody.
On June 4, 29-year-old Muhammad Jones allegedly made threatening statements on his New York State Predator Alert 2.0 Facebook page, one of four he operates, which includes the Tompkins County Community Hub, Tompkins County Predator Alert, and NYS Corruption Watch.
According to the Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office, Jones left Tompkins County at or shortly before making the post. Both the Schenectady Police Department and Warren County Sheriff’s Office were contacted after Jones’ possible whereabouts were identified. He was ultimately taken into custody without incident by Warren County Sheriff’s deputies and transported back to Tompkins County.
Jones was arraigned on the morning of June 5 on charges of felony making a terroristic threat and misdemeanor aggravated harassment, which police say stems from an “alleged domestic-related incident,” as well as the subsequent social media posts.
Jones was remanded to Tompkins County Jail on $100,000 cash bail.
The incident occurred just a day after a joint statement was released by the Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office and the Ithaca Police Department, making the public aware that none of the pages Jones operates have any official affiliation with local or state entities. The full release can be found below.
