ROMULUS, NY (CortacaToday) – A man wanted since 2019 in Seneca County has been caught.

On Thursday, August 29, 2024, 31-year-old Benjamin Nichols, of Erin, was taken into custody by Seneca County investigators at the Moffat County Jail in Colorado. He was extradited to New York and arraigned the next day. He was initially located after “an exhaustive collaborative search” on June 13, 2024, in Craig, Colorado.

The Chemung County man was previously charged with multiple felonies in New York for allegedly running a secret meth lab in Ovid, where he was also found with various guns and narcotics.

In 2021, Nichols, also a convicted felon and registered sex offender, was taken into custody by a task force led by U.S. Marshals for failure to appear at his scheduled court date for his crimes. According to the Seneca County Sheriff’s Office, Nichols was granted bail for $5 and has been on the run ever since.

“I want to thank and commend the members of the Seneca County Sheriff’s Office, and all the law enforcement agencies involved in the apprehension and extradition of Nichols,” said Seneca County District Attorney John Nabinger. “All went above and beyond in their efforts to return the defendant to Seneca County to answer for his crimes.”

Nichols is currently being held on $1,000,000 cash bail.
