ITHACA, N.Y. (WHCU) – A suspended Tompkins County Sheriff’s Deputy has been fired.

36-year-old Zach Starner was served with an official termination notice on Thursday, March 23, 2022. It was made effective March 22, 2023, the same day Starner was convicted of perjury.

Sheriff Derek Osborne says the termination was reported to the Division of Criminal Justice Services so that Starner’s certification “would be permanently invalidated, preventing him from working for another law enforcement agency in the future.”
