GROTON, NY (WHCU) – The Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office is mourning the loss of a colleague.

Arthur ‘Dewey’ Dawson, of Groton, passed away on Thursday at the age of 77. Dawson, who retired as a Sergeant after 29 years with the Sheriff’s office, was additionally the Town of Groton Justice for 24 years, served as a part-time patrol officer in Groton, Trumansburg, and Moravia, was a member of fire departments in Groton and Lansing, and a member of Ithaca Rescue.

Calling hours will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. today at Shurtleff Funeral Home in Groton. A funeral service will follow.
