ITHACA, NY (WHCU) – An Ithaca man is facing serious time in prison.
Arthur Harriett was convicted by a jury on Thursday on two counts each of kidnapping, assault, and robbery (first and second-degree) for a crime that happened on September 17, 2023. The trial and deliberation took just ten days.
Tompkins County District Attorney Matt Van Houten says the 49-year-old Harriett assaulted two men with a machete, threatened them with a shotgun while holding them against their will in a dog crate, and forcibly stole their personal property.
Second-degree kidnapping and first-degree robbery are punishable by between 8 and 25 years in state prison. Harriet was remanded to Tompkins County Jail after the verdict.
Harriett is scheduled to be sentenced on August 1.
