ITHACA, NY (607NewsNow) — Cornell Faculty Senate members are casting ballots this week on a vote of no confidence in university leadership, stemming from the Jane Doe case.

Iris Packman co-sponsored the resolution, telling 607 News Now it’s designed to send a message.

“We don’t have the power to remove leadership, but we can certainly express no confidence in the way leadership is handling this crisis,” Packman said on WHCU’s 607 This Morning. “And so, we thought this would be the best way convey that; the language of the resolution is incredibly simple. It’s one sentence.”

“It simply says that the Faculty Senate has lost confidence in the ability of the central administration to effectively address the crisis of sexual assault at Cornell,” Packman said.

The resolution comes amid rising vocal criticisms of how Cornell handled the alleged 2024 group sex assault of former student Jane Doe at a Cornell frat party. A criminal investigation is now in the hands of New York Attorney General Letitia James.

Voting on the resolution at noon on Friday, Nov. 6, Packman said.
