DRYDEN, NY (607NewsNow) — The town of Dryden is still exploring a unified fire district.

Town Supervisor Jason Leifer says the main rationale is to merge the business operations of three volunteer fire departments.

Under the plan the WB Strong Company, Varna Volunteer Fire Company, and Neptune Hose Company would keep their names and operational structures. Leifer says ultimately, establishing a joint fire district will save on costs.

Dryden Town Hall will host a public hearing on establishing a joint fire district on Oct. 1 at 6:30 p.m.
