City of Ithaca awarded nearly $5 million to replace lead water pipes

ITHACA, NY (607NewsNow) – Ithaca is getting infrastructure help.

On September 17, Governor Kathy Hochul announced funding for the city of nearly $5 million from the state’s Lead Infrastructure Forgiveness and Transformation program.

The money will be used to inventory and replace aging service lines that connect homes to water mains.

“Our communities shouldn’t have to choose between protecting their drinking water and taking on crushing debt,” said Hochul. “Every family deserves clean, safe drinking water at a cost they can afford, and these grants will help us make that goal a reality.”

Over $130 million was awarded to 24 projects, including in the Village of Johnson City, Town of Seneca Falls, City of Geneva, and City of Canandaigua.
