CAROLINE, NY (607NewsNow) – Several people are injured after an accident in Caroline.
Slaterville firefighters were called to Route 79 around 7 a.m. Thursday for a two-vehicle, head-on crash with entrapped victims and what 911 dispatchers described as serious injuries.
First responders called Dryden’s heavy rescue truck was called in to extricate the people involved, and authorities’ credit recently acquired battery operated rescue tools, which they say are faster, lighter, more maneuverable and easier to operate in confined spaces.
State Police identify the drivers as 42-year-old Jeffrey Belden of Richford, and 32-year-old Donovan Flanigan of Newark Valley. Belden was taken to Cayuga Medical Center and later transported to Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester.
Flanigan was taken to Guthrie Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre.
Mutual aid was provided by fire departments from Dryden, Varna, Brooktondale.
