ALBANY, N.Y. (WHCU) — New York’s Independent Redistricting Commission is proposing splitting up parts of the Southern Tier in new congressional district maps.

The bipartisan commission released their recommended map on Thursday, which moves Cortland from the 19th Congressional district to the 22nd with Auburn and Syracuse.

Much of Tioga County would be placed in the 23rd Congressional district. The 19th district currently includes all of Cortland, Tioga, and Tompkins counties.

The state Legislature will vote on the new map later this month.
