ITHACA, N.Y. (WHCU) — Classes are taking place as normal today at Fall Creek Elementary School.

In a statement to WHCU, Superintendent Luvelle Brown of the Ithaca City School District says members of the Facilities Department have completed an inspection of the building. There’s a large hole on the Linn Street side of the building from last night’s high-speed pursuit.

Despite the school opening, the Physical Education office—near the damage site—is closed.

Full statement from Dr. Luvelle Brown, Superintendent of the Ithaca City School District

Late last night, on Thursday, February 8, there was a police pursuit that resulted in a parked vehicle being struck and breaking through an exterior wall of Fall Creek Elementary on the Linn Street side of the building and entering the Physical Education (PE) Office. As a result, there is now a large hole in the side of the brick building, but the area has been secured and will be repaired as soon as possible. The ICSD Facilities Department completed a thorough inspection of the rest of the building, and we have determined that school will continue as normal for today, Friday, February 9.

The PE Office will remain closed, and parking spaces on Linn Street will be unavailable at this time. Barriers have been placed on the Linn Street side of the building, and a perimeter has been created around the area of the incident. Please expect that there may be increased activity today.

We appreciate and value the work of the Ithaca Police Department, Ithaca Fire Department, and ICSD Facilities Department for responding quickly to clear and secure the building for our students and staff to return on Friday.
