TRUMANSBURG, N.Y. (WHCU) – The Village of Trumansburg supports the closure of the Seneca Meadows Landfill.

Village officials passed a resolution on Monday calling for the landfill to cease operations in 2025, as previously planned. The village, which borders Seneca County, says an extension would negatively impact the character of the Finger Lakes region and increase emissions and local truck traffic. Seneca Meadows is seeking to expand its operations in both size and length of time.

A similar resolution was voted down in the summer of 2023 by the Tompkins County Legislature. It ultimately passed 8-6 last August after a motion to reconsider was brought forth by then Legislative Chair Shawna Black, who was not present at the first vote.
