ELMIRA, NY (607NewsNow) — Homelessness in the Southern Tier is being measured.
Catholic Charities of Chemung and Schuyler will lead interviews Thursday, Jan. 22 in a “point-in-time” study, which is a coordinated effort to count people experiencing homelessness in a specific area.
“It is important to draw attention to the funding needs of our communities to ensure service availability for our most vulnerable neighbors,” Director of Emergency Services Suzi Fritz said.
Staff at the group will organize interviews with partner agencies, including food pantries and non-profit groups, in Chemung and Schuyler counties.
Last year, Catholic Charities says over 770 people in both counties considered themselves homeless.
