CORTLANDVILLE, N.Y. (WHCU) – A Cortland County man is facing multiple charges after an investigation of a domestic dispute.

Cortland County Sheriff’s deputies were called to a home on Penguin Drive in Cortlandville on Sunday morning for a report of a disturbance. Investigators say 48-year-old Robert Benson choked and hit a victim several times in the presence of a child. Benson is also accused of preventing the victim from calling 911 and resisting arrest.

Benson is charged with felonies of strangulation, assault, and four misdemeanors including criminal mischief, endangering the welfare of a child, obstruction, and resisting arrest. Benson was held in jail without bail. He is set to appear in Cortlandville Town Court tomorrow morning at 11:30.
