GROTON, N.Y. (WHCU) — Three potential new mascots are up for debate in the Groton Central School District.
Last week, the school board narrowed down the list to a trio of contenders: the Red Hawks, the Grizzlies, and the Steamrollers. District officials are seeking feedback and input from the public. Logos are being designed by students and presented at a future school board meeting.
The change is a requirement from the New York Department of Education, which announced last year that school districts can no longer use Native American images and names.
