CAMERON, NY (607NewsNow) — A Steuben County man is accused of welfare fraud.
Deputies say 54-year-old James Brutsman, of Cameron, collected nearly $3,400 in benefits from the Steuben County Department of Social Services between Oct. 15, 2024 and Sept. 30, 2025 “that he was not eligible to receive,” Sheriff Jim Allard said.
Brutsman was charged Thursday with 4 felonies:
- Welfare fraud
- Offering a false instrument for filing
- Falsifying business records
- Grand larceny
Brutsman was arraigned on the charges and released.
