ITHACA, NY (607NewsNow) – A terroristic threat at a Tompkins County government building is under investigation.

On July 2, the Ithaca Police Department (IPD) responded to the county Health and Human Services (HHS) building at 320 West State Street just after 10 a.m.

Government officials reported that they’d received an email threatening violence. The HHS building was locked down, and the surrounding area was secured while a thorough investigation occurred. No threats were made to other departments or buildings, and there was no confirmed danger to the public at the time, but residents were advised to avoid the area.

The county issued an update around 2:15 p.m. that no credible threat had been found, and that “currently, there is no cause for public alarm.” Normal operations at the building have resumed.

Anyone with information relevant to the investigation is asked to contact IPD.
