MORAVIA, NY (607NewsNow) – Moravia Central School District Superintendent John Birmingham has taken a leave of absence.

On June 9, the Board of Education made the announcement, adding that it came at the request of Birmingham, effective immediately.

In a letter to staff and parents, Board President Neil Stevens acknowledged the move could generate concern or speculation. He asked for cooperation and understanding “as we move forward with the care, confidentiality, and professionalism required to ensure the best interests of the district and our students.”

Stevens expects the board to appoint an acting superintendent later today.
