ITHACA, NY (607NewsNow) — When the Reimagining Public Safety report was published in 2023 in the city of Ithaca and Tompkins County, one recommendation was establishing community responders.
Also called unarmed responders, Deputy Ithaca City Manager Dominick Recckio tells WHCU the program remains in the research stage.
In crafting this program, Recckio says he looked outside Ithaca.
Recckio presented framework of an unarmed responder program to the Common Council on May 14 and plans to return with a final draft for adoption later this year.
