ALBANY, NY (607NewsNow) — Farmers in New York are getting support.
Senator Lea Webb says a package of bills has passed in the state Senate, which will offer support to farmers and empower prospective new farmers. The package of 5 bills includes one sponsored by Webb, who represents the 52nd state Senate district.
“My bill will help establish or expand existing regional farmers’ markets in those areas of the state that have poor consumer access to high quality and reasonably priced fresh food and farm products. Our farmers are essential and I am committed to ensuring their success.”
Webb’s office says the legislation includes a succession plan program for farmers who plan to retire and a tax credit “for farmers who maximize carbon sequestration potential through a “carbon farming” land management strategy and directs the Department of Environmental Conservation to develop regulations related to certifying the amount of carbon sequestered or emissions reduced.”
