SYRACUSE, NY (607NewsNow) – A Mexican citizen has pled guilty to entering the United States illegally.

According to the Department of Justice, Jesus Romero-Hernandez entered the plea on Wednesday in Syracuse. The 27-year-old was arrested in January by ICE agents in Ithaca, garnering national attention after Acting Deputy Attorney General Emil Bove accused the Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office of impeding federal operations and putting agents in danger.

Romero-Hernandez reportedly faces up to two years in prison, a $250,000 fine, and deportation at his July 17 sentencing.
