ITHACA, NY (607NewsNow) — A tentative agreement is in place between Cornell and the Cornell Grad Student Union.
Under the deal, grad student workers in Ithaca would see an increase in the minimum stipend. “Beginning fall 2025, the minimum stipend for graduate student workers in Ithaca will be $47,548, which includes a 3.9% increase to the base stipend plus a $544 benefits adjustment that covers dental and vision insurance costs and access to Cornell Fitness Centers; and in fall 2026, $48,911, which includes a 2.9% increase to the base stipend plus a $544 benefits adjustment. For Cornell Tech graduate student workers, the minimum stipend will be $59,029 (fall 2025) and $60,719 (fall 2026).”
Current grad student workers would also receive $1,300 once the contract is ratified. Free TCAT bus passes and more vacation days are also part of the deal.
“By reaching this resolution at the bargaining table, Cornell has achieved its objectives in these negotiations: the university and CGSU-UE have agreed on contract terms that align with Cornell’s values, protect academic integrity and freedom, and serve the best interests of graduate student workers and the entire Cornell community,” Cornell President Michael Kotlikoff said.
Union members will vote to adopt the 2-year deal “in the coming weeks,” Kotlikoff stated.
