ODESSA, NY (607NewsNow) – One person is recovering after a crash in Schuyler County.

On February 16, the Odessa Fire Department responded to State Route 13 near the Chemung County line for a reported vehicle rollover. When units arrived, they couldn’t readily see where the car went. Using GPS tracking from the driver’s smartwatch, which was also used to call 911 after the crash, authorities located the vehicle upside down in a creek.

Firefighters were successfully able to execute a cold-water rescue. Odessa Fire says finding the driver, who was transported by ambulance for treatment, would have been difficult without the tracking smartwatch tracking feature.
