ITHACA, NY (607NewsNow) – Tompkins County has a new Communications Director.

Monika Salvage has accepted the position. According to Tompkins County Legislature Chair Dan Klein, Salvage has spent the last five years as project manager for opioid overdose prevention, substance use diversion, and harm reduction programs in Cayuga County, where communications, media relations, and public outreach garnered national attention.

Salvage has served in various administrative roles in Cayuga County, including the public information officer leading crisis communications during the COVID-19 pandemic. She brings nearly a decade of experience working in the Village of Fairport’s Office of Community and Economic Development.

Additionally, she is the founder and owner of Communicate THIS, a communications and marketing business that has served non-profits and government agencies since 2013. Her first day is February 3.

Salvage takes over for Dominick Recckio, who was appointed Ithaca’s Deputy City Manager in November 2024.
