OWEGO, NY (607NewsNow) – A Tioga County jury has reached a verdict in the second Thomas Rath murder trial.

According to the Owego Pennysaver, after more than a week of testimony, it took the jury less than five hours on Thursday to find Angelo Baez guilty of first and second-degree murder, and first-degree kidnapping in the May 2023 abduction and killing of Rath. The 48-year-old Baez, of Ithaca, was found not guilty of an intimidation charge.

His sentencing is scheduled for February 28, 2025, at 1:30 p.m. at the Tioga County Courthouse.

The guilty Baez verdict follows the October murder conviction of Newfield man Joseph Howell, who is set to be sentenced in January 2025.

Next to stand trial related to the crime is Kysha Radcliff, of Lansing. She is accused of driving the car that transported Rath from Ithaca’s “Jungle” encampment to Joseph Howell’s Newfield home at 70 Benjamin Hill Road, where Rath was tortured. Radcliff faces a first-degree kidnapping charge at her trial in February 2025.

A third man charged with Rath’s murder, Jonathon Glennon, is expected to stand trial in March 2025.
