ITHACA, NY (CortacaToday) — CortacaToday is getting ready for a change.
Beginning on Monday, Nov. 25, our website is changing to a new name. “607NewsNow” reflects the true scope of our daily news coverage.
“WHCU’s AM signal can be heard across much of the Southern Tier,” news director Joe Salzone said. “We can cast a wide net on a macro level while still providing in-depth coverage of Tompkins and Cortland counties.”
CortacaToday launched in the summer of 2024. At the time, Cayuga Media Group General Manager Chet Osadchey wrote that it was an “expanding on how we bring news.” The name is different, but Osadchey says the mission remains the same.
“607NewsNow.com is really the culmination of a long-term commitment and goal of ours to truly establish a valued local news and information component,” Osadchey said. “As most people are aware, local news media has been swallowed up by big-tech and social media. The result is much false or sensational content masked as news with the simple goal of generating revenue.”
“The success of WHCU radio as a local news product has been accepted by both listeners and advertisers and allowed us the opportunity to expand the brand online,” Osadchey continued. “We hired Maddie Cavataio to help launch the product as CortacaToday.com. Harnessing the radio and online content has proven very successful and we feel that the name 607NewsNow.com will help us better reflect the community that continues to seek news.”
“The name switch reflects that we are willing and able to bring a broader range of coverage to those in the area,” editor-in-chief Maddie Cavataio explained. “Covering the 607 is something we’re already used to, and our new name will make that clearer than ever.”
Whether it’s on the radio or in this space, our commitment to covering local news remains as strong as ever.
