ITHACA, N.Y. (WHCU) – An Ithaca man will spend 20 years to life behind bars for an attempted robbery that turned violent.

In January, 39-year-old Clifton Bibbins was convicted in a 5-count indictment for a crime that occurred in Lansing in October of 2021. Bibbins forced his way into a home to steal items and pistol-whipped and shot the occupant in the foot.

Tompkins County District Attorney Matthew Van Houten that Bibbins was sentenced Friday, April 14, 2023. Bibbins was given 20 years to life for two counts of burglary, and concurrent sentences of 16 years to life for attempted robbery and gun possession, and 12 years to life for assault. Van Houten said the Court considered Bibbins’ prior criminal history in sentencing, which includes two prior attempted robbery convictions and a felony narcotics conviction, though none occurred in Tompkins County.
