ITHACA, NY (607NewsNow) – The Department of Defense is ordering Cornell to examine its relationship with foreign countries.

On August 17, the DOD directed 30 universities to review collaborations with “entities of concern”, citing potential threats to national security.

The Cornell Daily Sun reports a U.S. official confirmed that Cornell, which receives over $50 million in Pentagon funding each year, was included on the list, though no reason was given.

According to the DOD statement, Cornell and the other 29 schools on the list must “complete a comprehensive audit of all identified foreign collaborations, assess the exposure of sensitive or export-controlled research, and implement strict mitigation plans, including the termination of problematic partnerships,” and submit their findings and actions by August 31 or risk losing future federal research funding eligibility.
