ITHACA, NY (CortacaToday) — Today is Election Day.
The long campaign trail for every candidate comes to an end. Republican Congressman Marc Molinaro faces a 2022 rematch with Democrat Josh Riley, who wants to represent the 19th Congressional district. In the 22nd Congressional district – which includes the city of Cortland – Congressman Brandon Williams, a Republican, is running for a second term against Democrat John Mannion, who’s currently a state senator.
In the 52nd state Senate district, Democrat Lea Webb is trying to keep her seat against Tompkins County Legislator Mike Sigler. Sigler is running on the Republican and Local 607 lines. Democratic Assemblymember Anna Kelles was running for re-election unopposed until Lindsay Lustick Garner announced a write-in campaign in the 125th Assembly district.
Two district attorney races, there are three candidates. Tompkins County DA Matt Van Houten is running unopposed. Cortland County DA Patrick Perfetti faces Democratic opponent Elizabeth McGrath. Perfetti has held office since his 2016 victory.
Propositions are appearing on this year’s ballot. Across New York, Proposition 1 is the statewide equal rights amendment. In Enfield, three propositions seek to increase the term limits for town supervisor, clerk, and highway superintendent from two years to four. Voters in Cortland can choose to eliminate two elected positions of constable. And in the village of Homer, voters are asked to establish a service award for active volunteer firefighters.
WHCU will air live and local coverage along with CBS News Radio’s national coverage beginning at 8 p.m. A full recap and results will be featured Wednesday on Ithaca’s Morning News.
