HOMER, NY (CortacaToday) – A new road traffic pattern is coming to Homer.
On Tuesday, October 22, 2024, the Board of Trustees approved the installation of 3-way stop signs at the intersection of Hooker Avenue and Sunset Drive in the village.
Only one person showed up to speak at the public hearing, sharing anecdotes about speeding cars, how a neighbor’s pet had been killed, and how dangerous it can be to walk on the road. Trustee Elizabeth McGrath, also running to be Cortland County’s District Attorney, added she hasn’t experienced reckless driving in the area, but has heard from residents expressing concerns about safety.
The village considered adding sidewalks, road shoulders, and a speed bump, but the stop signs were the quickest and least expensive way to address the issue. The vote was unanimous.
Trustee and Deputy Mayor Patrick Clune said in the meeting the local law would take effect immediately upon its filing with the NYS Secretary of State.
