ALBANY, N.Y. (WHCU) — The new deadline for the state budget is April 17th

The New York State Legislature agreed Monday to extend the deadline for a second straight week. Reports say one of the main sticking points is negotiations around the current bail law, with some saying judges need more discretion to set bail, while others point to data that shows pre-trial detention does not affect the crime rate.

New York’s budget for 2023 to 2024 was due on April 1st.
