ITHACA, N.Y. (WHCU) — A former Tompkins County employee and Cornell alum has died.

Irene Stein moved with her husband Peter from Boston to Ithaca in 1956, where she continued her education and eventually became director of the Tompkins County Office for the Aging in 1996 until her retirement 10 years later. Stein also formerly chaired the Tompkins County Democratic Party.

She passed away Sunday at the age of 92.
