ITHACA, NY (607NewsNow) – Winter weather could be headed to the region.

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for December 23 in much of the Southern Tier and Central New York, including Tompkins, Cortland, and Tioga Counties.

Meteorologists say ice and up to six inches of snow are possible, beginning early Tuesday. It could lead to a slippery commute to and from work.

The advisory will be active until 4 p.m. in Tompkins, Cortland, Tioga, Schuyler, Chemung, Chenango, Otsego, Delaware, Sullivan, and Broome Counties.

In Madison, Oneida, Onondaga, and Cayuga Counties, the advisory is extended through 7 a.m. on Christmas Eve.
