CORTLANDVILLE, NY (607NewsNow) – Local state representatives are applauding a $9.3 million investment in affordable housing.

Senator Lea Webb and Assemblymember Anna Kelles call the state funding for the Cortlandville Commons Project a huge win.

“I applaud this robust investment in affordable housing in Cortlandville,” said Webb. “I thank Governor Hochul for her partnership as we work together to increase access to safe, stable, affordable housing here in Central New York.”

The 68-unit complex will be developed on a vacant property on Route 13.  It will feature 27 one-bedroom apartments, 37 two-bedroom apartments, and four three-bedroom apartments. Ten of those units will be designed for individuals with mobility, hearing, or vision issues, and will be fully ADA-compliant.

It will also contain commercial space, including 6,200 square feet targeted for a daycare center.

“This is exactly the type of investment we need to address multiple community needs at once,” said Kelles. “Stable housing and reliable childcare are the foundation to strong communities and local economic vitality, and I’m thrilled to see New York State making this important investment in Cortland County.”

All apartments will be affordable to individuals and families with incomes up to 60% of the Area Median Income for Cortland County.

“This project has been a long time coming, and we are grateful to our state partners for their advocacy on behalf of the Town of Cortlandville,” said Cortlandville Town Supervisor Gregory Leach.

The funding will be provided through the New York State Homes and Community Renewal’s Low-Income Housing Tax Credit competitive funding.
