ITHACA, NY (CortacaToday) – Improvements are coming to The Kitchen Theatre Company (KTC) in Ithaca.
KTC is getting a DASNY grant for several infrastructure projects to enhance the space. Producing Artistic Director Emily Jackson credits State Senator Lea Webb, who encouraged KTC to seek funding in late 2023, and dropped the $120,000 check off in Ithaca on Monday, August 12, 2024.
According to Jackson, KTC will use the money to upgrade the lobby space, the building exterior, bathrooms, and equipment to support KTC as a community gathering hub.
“On a personal note, it is so meaningful, this investment of funds, as an artist and as a non-profit leader,” adds Jackson. “It signifies a deep appreciation and understanding that arts organizations are more than just cultural activities. They are really social and economic drivers that are integral to the fabric of our whole community.”
For State Senator Lea Webb’s part, supporting the arts has been important to her long before her career in politics.
The upgrades will be phased in, with some happening now, some mid-season, and some in the first half of 2025.
“We like to say that important conversations happen in The Kitchen,” said Jackson. “This funding is vital to the mission to producing entertaining, thought-provoking work, and we look forward to continuing that for many years to come.”
The Kitchen Theatre’s production season opens on September 11.
