WATKINS GLEN, NY (607NewsNow) – After more than four years, the Sentry Bridge at Watkins Glen State Park is reopening.

The New York State Parks Office is holding an official grand opening ceremony today, July 1, at 1 p.m.

The iconic stone structure, first constructed in 1908, shut down in 2022 due to safety concerns, and construction on a $7.5 million steel replacement began last summer. It was fabricated off-site and lowered into place in April. Crews have spent the past several months securing the bridge.

Planners and workers finished the project on time, as it was slated to finish in time for the July 4th weekend this year when it was greenlit in October 2024.
