ITHACA, NY (607NewsNow) — Unarmed responders in Ithaca are under consideration.

Alderperson Tiffany Kumar says the program, which was suggested during the Reimagining Public Safety initiative that began in 2020, would address racial discrimination.

Kumar adds the city has set funding aside to pay for an initial round of responders.

Deputy City Manager Dominick Recckio presented a rough draft of the program to the Common Council in May and previously told WHCU he expects to have the full program on front of the Common Council for a vote later this year.
