ITHACA, NY (607NewsNow) – There’s a new leader at Cornell’s Ann S. Bowers College of Computing and Information Science (CIS).
On June 2, the Cornell Board of Trustees approved the 5-year appointment of Professor Sorin Lerner.
Lerner has been teaching at the University of California, San Diego, since 2006 and has served as chair of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering since 2020.
Former CIS Dean and current Provost Kavita Bala tells the Cornell Chronicle that Lerner’s “expertise and commitment to research” make him a good choice to lead.
Lerner is looking forward to transitioning to the East Coast from SoCal. He calls Cornell a “special place” where working together can inspire people to push the limits of research and education, particularly on the cusp of the AI revolution.
Lerner begins on November 1.
