DRYDEN, NY (607NewsNow) – The Tompkins County Republican Party will have a new chair.

On Thursday, November 21, 2024, now-former Chairman Mike Sigler stepped down. The county’s Republican Executive Committee voted to appoint Vice Chair Chantel Marquis as interim leader. She also serves as the Town of Dryden’s chairwoman.

“I’m very grateful for the opportunity to lead the county committee and hope to see more Republicans elected in Tompkins County in the future,” said Marquis in a statement. “We aim to address and bring light to many serious issues in our communities and I’m happy to stand up and be a voice.”

A full committee vote is expected by the end of the year.

Sigler did not share any plans for the future, but the Tompkins County Legislator voiced his support for Marquis.

“Chantel was very helpful to me in my campaign for Senate,” said Sigler. “She got the work done. She was clearly capable of leading the party with her organization, work ethic, and drive. I’ve served as chair on and off for 20 years. It’s time for someone new to lead the party and I was happy to find someone I could work with going forward.”

The party says it’s already eying next year’s elections, with talk of potential candidates for the 2026 New York gubernatorial race.
